WHAT TO DO WHEN THE PRICE AIN’T RIGHT?

Are wedding expenses keeping you up at night?

Let’s face it, weddings aren’t cheap! And, on top of that, so many couples feel the pressure of keeping up appearances. Don’t. There’s no need.

We’ve spoken to a few couples recently, as part of our Wedding Sense Workshops, and the number one question amongst brides planning their wedding is:

How can I lower my costs? It’s all just so expensive.

It’s a very valid question! Not only are weddings expensive, but you may wish to redirect some of the small fortune to a mortgage on a house or travel the world! Yes, weddings can cost that much and more!

When planning a wedding, it’s important to keep a few key questions in mind. Here are my top 3 questions we ask brides when we brainstorm a budget.

  • What are your must-haves vs. your nice-to-haves?
  • How can you get what you want in the same budget envelope?
  • Will this matter to you five or ten years from now?

And here’s how to think these questions through:

What are your must-haves vs. your nice-to-haves?

Make a list of all the items you need for your wedding / event. Venue, catering, flowers etc. Once you’ve listed every item, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. How essential is this item? E.g. a venue is vital vs. a candy bar that may be more of a nice to have.
  2. How important is this to me? E.g. flowers may be so much more important to you vs. your invitations
  3. How important is this to my other half? Remember, some things may be more important to you and less to your partner. You will have to find the balance here.

As you ask yourself these questions, you’ll start to build a picture of what is essential vs. what you can perhaps park aside for now, or aportion a lower budget too (for now while you get the most important items ticked off the list).

How can you get what you want in the same budget envelope?

Now you’ve figured out what’s important and what you are willing to compromise on you can dive deeper.

Start researching to find suppliers to deliver your wedding dreams. This can be challenging as there are literally hundreds of suppliers providing very similar services. However, the key is in my use of the word similar. I didn’t say they were the same!

At 8.30pm on the 7th February, I will be presenting live on the Asian Bride Sorority platform about all the ways you can think through your quotes and engage with suppliers to get what you want. Register here to watch live.

Will this really matter in 5 years time?

Remember, while every decision and cost seems like a huge necessity at this point in time, 5 or 10 years from now it may not matter. It probably isn’t worth stressing over. It’s your day, wear the crown, be the diva and do what feels right for you.

Speak soon, all the best,
